THE LIGER DREAMS
THE liger DREAM
My well-wishers I thank you all for today, how are you all? I believe you are delight in the palm wine together with the meats, am sorry for joining you late and feasibly I have been going through some emotional greed after the recent victory over the other village, though the battle was extremely weary. Now that am getting older, as you all know that I have promised the people of this land that the battle will be the last I will fought for this land and I thank the gods that join hands together for the recent victory of the battle in this land. Besides, Thanks for honoring me as the new Abore(priest) of this village and I believed you all relished the land while I was the Balogun(war leader) of this land and Beside I think in a situation like this, it is not bad if I began to share some of my experiences from my youthful days most especially during my hunting expeditions, the war and many challenges in the land of the livings..
Though men are born with one or other aptitudes but mine I didn’t think its ordinary, I will like to start the experiences by saying that all I want to say are true about me and moreover I want you to know that honestly I am not saying this to keep anyone busy or decease our time perhaps we are all great man in this land of ours who always use our time judiciously.
As you all knew that my father has been a great hunter in this land for so long, so also was my late grandfather who embedded the spiritual ability in me. My mother was the leading goddess of the Olodeode fortress of this land; she had been a very strong woman that had challenged a lot of woman in her lifetime both in battle field and in the spiritual and fiscal realm. She had also fought a lot of battle and had made countless victory for this land over his rivals. She had been the second out of the past eight woman goddess that had entered the Igbo Eewo( Forbidden forest) of the seven kingdoms around this village and came back out alive, my grandfather was one of the first legends of this land, or I may even call him an idol or a god. The whole lives in the land worshiped him like god and creator; this has no reasons due to his bravery and legendary deeds in this land during his life time. The destiny of this whole land rest on his shoulder while I was young, he was a very well immune hunter in his time and he was pronounced the most powerful of his kind who could turn stone to bread. I was young during this time but all things are still fresh in my memory.
I always want to spend my holiday with my father as I took that as the avenue to see my younger ones because I lived with my grandfather. During this time I have learnt a lot in the Ifa temple where my grandfather had laid me to have a deep and profound knowledge of the Ifa Corpus after he discover my behaviors in school, it was during an holiday when I left my grandfather and travelled to my father in his destination. The journey could even be called a trip because I always use some charms while traveling. I got home as quick as possible through the help of the Kanako(Path lessen charm) I have made using my grandfather's charm book. I did not meet anyone at home anyway, I dropped the threads made bag my grandfather had made for me to aid my Ifa(Oracle) training in my father’s room, there was a small charm box I have made for myself to keep the charms I have made for it conformability and safety, the box was very powerful because of it whirling as a result of the various charms that dwelled together in the box. After I have secured the box by taking it to the backyard amidst the banana where I usually kept it, because living with this box in a room is a severe menace,
Not quite long, my father entered, his eyes were both blunt and full of stress like he was being overwhelmed, i have greeted him dramatically, though he reciprocated sarcastically before he stunted straight to his room wearing a desperate face like an humiliated gorilla. Not quite long I began to hear some kind of humming sound emanating from his room “what could have happened to him “ I asked myself because he had never behaved in such manner to me ever since I knew life, and besides he should have asked about his father immediately he saw me . I tremendously lingered toward his room and eavesdropped, I saw my father chanting Ogun as he gathered his things together.
I quickly think about what to do, I rush down to the backyard where I have kept my charm box, opened it and I picked my wailing Afose(Affirmative charm) I had split on it, moved toward him like a mad dog and ordered him not to go hunting for that day. But to my surprised that day was one of the worse disregarding day i ever had in life, I thought my Afose had been effective on him as he dropped his gun and his hunting bag which he usually referred to as Àpò Ode he moved closer to me and ordered me to sit down. After i sat one a wooden stool he had made, for my mother to sit on while cooking in the kitchen, he then began to tell me a story which I will like to tell all of you too. If I could be accurate, this is how he started the story
“one day in a faraway village, there was a man who has no successor but was very powerful, in the village was a various sickness, after the IFA priestess had consulted the oracle, the solution to the problem required a brave and powerful volunteer to go to the most dangerous forest of the land where no one had ever come back alive since history, the king summoned and promised whoever provide what the IFA has requested to resolve things will marry the most beautiful daughter of the king named Arewa, this particular man regardless of his age went to the forest and killed then brought the castrated vulture to the village, the ritual was make and peace returned to the city in fullest. After this, the old man then went to the palace and asked the king about the promised he has make but the king said that his daughter has disregard him to get her married to an old man like him, the king the offer him another option that if the old man should bring his first son who he could give the only princes to”
“Now if you are the old man what will you do about the issue” my father asked me.
I became silence for a while but to be honest I was unable to provide an answer to the question before he stood and went back to his room and continue his gatherings, this is when I now realized that my Afose had failed on him and it is getting late already. The time was close to six p.m. in the evening already. I never left him alone, I saw everything in his dejected face, and he was furious with angry,
“It was your friend “I asked him solemnly.
“Yes” he replied desperately.
I asked him his plan about it because I knew he could cause the whole village an everlasting g sorrow.
“I am going hunting for tonight” he replied.
I knew he had lied and he has always taught me to desist from lies, I submitted questioning him that night and went back to my room, he began to gather his charms, he put on his Efunpa(arm apprehending charm) , tied his Ibante(waist charm) and roll up his gun with his Atamatase”s Olonde, his hunting cloth was made from a kangaroos skin, he wore it and pick his gun as I watched him, his appearance was extremely scary and raping, all his nerves were out and agile. I fear had really cloth me around because I have never saw him in such a look. He was about to disappear as that was his usual ways of going for hunting at night, I deliberately called him and told him not to go for the hunt.
“Your Afose had been dis-valued, go and refined it before the dawn”
This is what he said before he disappeared.
That night, none of my brothers came home from farm to sleep, I was the only one at home, my mother had gone to the village Odun Oloro”s (Opera night). It was around eleven o clock when I was about to sleep, I have closed all the windows and the two main entrance door. Though before the disappearance of my father I have begun to have feelings that something is not good enough in the house. Suddenly i heard a knock at the entrance door, after some seconds the knock began to grew wings, I could not hold it as I moved closer to the door and beep through the key hole, it was an extremely a shock when I saw a man holding a small wooden image like that of elves, he pointed straight to the house and this object jumped down from the man holding a small cane and coming straight to me. All the sound I could hear from this creature is humming, like a masquerade, I quickly lingered back to my father’s room; the knock was now getting heavier and rougher. I have thought thousand within a two beautiful minutes, I have even rendered the incantation that doesn’t belonged to me, I was very surprised when i received a jacking slap on my buttock, to my surprised, it was my father, it was already dawn and then I released that all I have been roaming about for is nothing g but just a dream but i could not say precisely how everything had happened because I don’t believed it is possible to have a dream in a dream or possibly dreaming while dreaming in a dream. That is the beginning g of my adventure.
