DINNING WITH THE BEES
DINNING WITH THE BEES
I was addressed as the sleeping lord of my village though, After I woke up with one but heavy slap by my father, he had just come back from the hunting expenditure he had gone for the previous night.
“You are still in bed when your entire mate is already in their father’s farm”
“Have you come here to sleep?” he asked me darelyI
woke up felling extremely tired that morning,
“Go and arrange the basket in the kitchen and prepared to go to farm”
“My entire yam tubers in the farm are almost gone scorched by the sun” my father ordered me in a cleared voice
I stood up reluctantly, packed my blanket and dashed away to the instruction. My intention was that my brothers are staying in the farm since they are not all around,i carried my charm box, I never go anywhere without it especially when I believe I could be in need of it. I was very surprised to see my grandfather that morning; he had come to pick his laborers and also was going to check his trap in the farm, and the trip to the farm was trios. I lead the way anyway as i wasn’t always allowed to lag behind whenever we are on our way going to the farm.
“Can’t you walk as fast as possible”? My grandfather ask sarcastically,
“I am walking baba” I replied melodiously.
He was next behind me while my father was a bit far away behind us coming carefully through another leading path searching if he could caught an animal to hit by his gun. It was like my grandfather had been using some kind of walking charm because I knew how seriously I took the trip with my two feet dancing on the way, in fact one was rising before the other foot slaps that particular portion of the land, I began to suspect him.
Not quite long after some kilometer of heavy trip with some stony sweat raining from me and my grandfather never had any, the heavy basket on me had caused me soaked and fermented physically.
After we have gotten to the farm that day, though in farm I normally work a little bit before i massacre my breakfast, I had successfully set more than ten basket of yam tuber on the cultivated heaps, my father was also a greedy planter who almost run me out of tubers why laying. My grandfather usually checks his trap to avoid loss of meat, because there was a day when his trap caught an antelope but lost it before he got there in the evening and since that day he always checks his trap immediately he got to the farm.
After a little while of planting, my father responded to a flinted sound which I never heard in the first place.
“Huuuuuu” my father responded reluctantly, becoming too serious with the planting,
“Who was that you have responded father?” I asked him curiously
“Baba” he replied
“I think his trap has caught again” he acclaimed
Hearing this I became vivacious and elated
“Then go and meet him o”, “it will be too serious for him only to keep tracking the trails” I frankly protested at him.
“Huuuuuuu” the sound echoed again
“Am on my way oo” my father respond while still holding his hoe tight and hitting the heap on the oblongata. After a short period he dropped the hoe reluctantly which I saw in his two eye.
“Am coming oooo” he responded in dejected, rude and louder voices.
“Go and judge your breakfast o” he instructed me solemnly.
After he had left me to respond to my grandfather, I went to do as he had instructed, I went back to the yam plot to lay the remaining yam set.
“huuuu” another sound originated from the same direction the first one had come from. I was the only one left in the plot
“huuuuu” I quickly responded to it since I don’t expect another person to have send such sign except my father or my grandfather. I quickly dropped the fully loaded yam set basket I was holding, ran to the particular direction, but to my surprise, I couldn’t see anybody. I ransack the whole place but could not find either my father or my grandfather.
At that juncture I began to feel something not pleasant like a sudden wind, rumbling bush and a lot more. I don’t know what could have caused it, I went back to the hut, I went directly to my charm box, in the box were a lot of charms, there was a glass I have made to track someone, this glass is very powerful to the extent that nothing can obstruct it action. I picked the glass and chanted in it, meanwhile chanting on this glass requested the name of whosoever you wish to see in it, I wave across it surface, but to my surprised, I saw my grandfather being arrested by some set of gnome, fear griped me from the leg, I got lost with an immediate effect. I thought more than I should have that time. I quickly chanted to see my father again but I could not see him in the glass. Such thing had never happened ever since I have begun to use the glass. I quickly armed myself, with a lot of charms, I have put on my Efunpa, wear my Ibante, tied my Olonde firmly, I have always put the glass inside a small bag I have made with a kangaroo’s skin, I have also took a small pod full of one powder to arrest someone’s power, and lastly I took my seven days boiled cutlass with me.
The cutlass was not just ordinary iron made. I have soaked and boiled it for good seven days and in a severe condition; meanwhile no mortal could resist or subdue the power in this cutlass. I have used the cutlass throughout the Ogun Ekiti Parapo and beheaded a lot of powerful mortal.
The reason why I have made up my mind was because I have heard one story about a very powerful man in Alasin’s village, who was beaten to death by just a single goblin despite the fact that he was the most powerful wizard of his time, and my grandfather never has anything on him and my grandfather also does not have anything except his gun on him.
When I was about to begin the sacrificial mission which I never knew anything about and what am about to do or began, as I have to know how they have went and which direction n they have both took, I opened my glass and chanted on it and I saw my grandfather where they have tied him to one tree, I chanted Ogun panegyric
I opened jólóbà my charm bag, that was the name I have given my hunting bag, picked one pod containing the seeking powder, sprayed it on the ground, and my father trail began to show, I could see it clearly and I followed it, it was not a pleasant move for me. After I have walked for nothing less than twenty minutes, I began to noticed that the trail is leading to one dangerous forest in the town, I began to administer fear because according to history no man had ever escaped out alive in the from once you enter.
I began to wander why my father had been there or why my grandfather could have done to the gnomes that lead him to such a dangerous forest.
“I must think” I said to myself in a low contempt.
A lot of thought run through my blood system for more than three minutes, and the trail began to faint, I was left with no choice but to keep moving because ass I keep waiting, the trail will keep fainting and it’s not mendable,
I bade courage and began the castrating trip. The forest was not a mere bush, merely the look from the entering were scary and threatening I launched myself into the forest like a missile with a rapid and desperate alacrity. My cutlass was glowing like that of Esu Laalu, the forest was extremely shady and quite like the garden of remembrance, the trees beside the roads looks like an image of man with different forms in their standpoint. The leaves cease to wave and there was no single sound in the forest except the squawking of the eagles flying above the forest trees. I kindled my legs one after the other like a thief in a sugarcane plot, I never cease incantation most especially the Oyeku in specific, it was not an easy move when I set in to the first challenge, I noticed a heave wind behind and a winging sound as well, the bees were more than hundred million in number with a heavy look in their eyes, they are bigger than hawk with a long and sharp claws on the tip of their two legs. That was how I began the running monster. I began to create a storm with my sudden speed meanwhile I never cease incantation, they are faster in the air like an hyena chasing it pray in the jungle, I had no choice but to use my Kanako because their look could cause me injury, I chanted my Isuju and hanged my left leg in the air, that was not all I have done. I also chanted to create a storm. The storm is the most powerful of all my charm and I don’t just use it for junk occasion, it is my kind abode whenever I confront the toughest challenge and no other man has it source except my grandfather in this our village, the bees could not see me, after they have all wrathfully passed me by, I saw them clearly as they halt and began to look into different route in the forest, they began to search for me, my sudden disappearance had caused then a heavy knock, they began to shout in an imbalance and different voices, some of their voices resembled that of Elegbede while some are like that of a dog, some resemble that of hawk. After they have surveyed that particular place for something like a minute, they all feel disappointed as they abort their mission one after the other. I then decided to arrest the last one of them but my ability to do it seems not to be strong enough. After they have all went back, I release my leg and I saw it heading straight to me furiously, I hold tight to my Olonde and hit the head that was how I gave an everlasting silence to it. I continued my relay, suddenly was a heave and a giant creature appeared behind me again, it was AFARA the bee’s king.
“youuuuuuu” he shouted in a heavy and rumbled voice
This creature was like a monkey king, he has a very big and stinky look with more than thousand bees all over his body. AFARA’S whole body was full of melted Horney and shapeless look. His two hands are as big as a branch of ARABA tree with very long black claws; he wore a big ring made from clay in his third left finger in his left hand. I think it is a symbol of his marriage.
“coooooome” he ordered me as he pointed straight to me
I began to chant the OYEKU corpus because to avoid the eye from evil witness, no doubt the whole body get the hope. when I move close to him
“What are you?”
“Are you human?”
“Do you do evil?”
“Why are you in the forbidden forest of the million goblins and thousand demons?”
Afara asked all this questions without letting me to provide an answer to any of it.
“Human are evil, you are all ingrate and stupid” he said in a humiliated mood.
“Can’t you hear them?”
“Can’t you here my people crying for their return?”
“Your people will never return home alive and if they must, not in the same look again nor in the same beauty” AFARA said in an angry voice.
“All the kingdoms around mine are celebrating their death soon so go back home and do goods” he said in a brave look.
“Your race had caused us a great lose and havoc, I have lost some of my kingdom as a result of your race in the year past, they caused nothing good but evil, war, disaster, catastrophe and casualty. The war they had caused us is an ill wind which had blown us no good. The horror they have caused, the misery they have set into many kingdom of this forest, the agony we have experience and been through as a result of your race, moreover, to what you have caused us we have experience no good but waste and ruins with regards to crops and vegetation in this forest. All the land has been rendered infertile, no meaningful activities can be carried out, agriculture cannot more be practiced, food, which is the most necessary tale in life, can therefore not be produced, and you knew the consequence is hunger and starvation which could probably result in continuous death in fact hunger is so acute that my race eat whatever comes their ways and not what they want like before your race besiege and raped us. They go to the extent of eating lizards, insects, weeds, leaves, and so even feed on pebbles and sand which are injurious or even may be said deadly. How much should I mention about your race and their handiwork in this innocent forest, about the disestablishment and the disintegration of our families and properties? Sufferings of the braves and ever defeating soldiers? Children becoming orphan or wives becoming widow suddenly in an effort to run into safety in the confusion your people had caused? Or I should let you know that the first king of this kingdom was murdered by your people during the unpleasant visit? Most children are separated from their parent. Some became cripple and blind while some end up as a fugitive in another land unknown to them. It is not that we are weak to fight them back but because it was so sudden and we must protect our sons and daughters” Afara said all these in sobered mood and dejected voice.
I move closer to him in a staggered look, holding tightly to my cutlass, and pointed to him too the same way he had pointed to me earlier.
“Heeeeel! It’s a lie” I shot and interrupted him with boldness since he had not allowed me to utter a single word for more than five minutes,
He was very surprised I could talk to him in such an arrogant voice and look.
“I will go to all the kingdoms and set them all ablaze if they ever make just a scare on my fathers and even yours if you are included in the foolish judgment. “I said in a dexterous voice.
“You are all an ingrate to the so called mankind and even among yourselves” I told him
“My people have come here because they were both kidnaped by the EBORAS” I protested in a provoked voice.
“Here you are standing telling me rubbish and all sort of nonsense and rubbish from your filthy mouth” I said like I want to fight him.
He busted into a heavy laughter and the whole forest began to rumble as the leaves of the tress began to fall; I never allowed that to over throne my alacrity.
Though from his look he has never come to fight me
“Why can’t you allow me to end my memory verse before you cut in to my way?” he asked me sarcastically
“You have never heard anything from the evil your race have caused us young man, look at my head” he pointed
There was a deep wound at the center of Afara’s head like a screwed whole
“I receive it from one of your race during the sudden war, not too deep to that of my wife and the rest five hundreds sons I gave birth to” He acclaimed in an arrested mood
“Do you know the reason why my friend EGBERE always cry?” he asked me
“He has been crying for the evil deeds of and the wickedness that dwelled in man” AFARA said in a dejected mood and surprisingly to prove all he had said, he opened his left hand palm and asked me to look into it, in the palm I saw one of the chiefs in this village having a sexual intercourse with his friend’s wife,I was very surprised when i saw it.
“Some from your kind still feed on human flesh for their daily meal and some cannot even eat and get satiated without eating human meat alongside”
“And you call yourself the leading creature?”
“Are evil not in your people?” AFARA asked me curiously
“Here we’re all unite and we never hurt anything nor humiliate anyone irrespective of where you are from” he said all this in a devastated mood.
I have studied him for long and began to derive meaning form his words, he speaks like a prophet in Antioch. After he was through saying all this, he turned back to go his own way.
“Thank you but what is your name” I asked him eagerly.
He turned back majestically and laughs melodiously before he replied me dramatically in a rigorous voice.” A- -F- -A- -R- -A”
After everything, he gave me a stone before he finally went his own way. This stone was nowadays called OTA INU IROKO(atone inside iroko tree) and told me that I will be in need of it as far as my mission is concern
What an interesting story it is. Thank you for the entertainment. I'll be waiting for the concluding part.
